Acorn to Oak Sports and Recreation Program is focused on providing opportunities for youths to participate in team and character building sporting activities. This program provides a safe environment with structured activities, where participants are positively stimulated to channel their energy into meaningful play and therefore avoid getting involved in crime.
Young people growing up in today’s world face ever-increasing pressure. Developing confidence, resilience and transferable skills are key to enabling young people to fulfill their potential in this fast moving, highly competitive society. The A2O sports and recreation program aims to assist these youths in developing that confidence and leadership skills through their participation in team sports.
The participants are connected with the role models and mentors who can help them improve their sporting game as well as prepare them to succeed in the game of life. The A2O program has been instrumental in allowing the role models to penetrate the surrounding community to further raise awareness with the community.
With activities such as drop-in basketball, basketball leagues, baseball and soccer, these programs provide the youth participants with a greater understanding of team work and togetherness. The principles of working together to achieve one common goal goes far beyond the actual sporting event; it provides discipline and learning that can be utilized in addressing and developing the fundamental gaps which exist in the lives of today’s youth..
The friendships built on and off the court, field and ring helps develop the self confidence through the positive reinforcement of peer support. Aside from the emotional and mental benefits of the program, the participants experience first hand the benefits of keeping active and developing a healthy lifestyle.
Acorn to Oak Sports and Recreation program exists to change lives through the sporting arena using sports as a tool to build community, improve health and teach leadership skills in a non-threatening environment.
